A woman from Troy, Missouri was killed this past Thursday evening in a head on collision in Lincoln County, Missouri on Highway C at North Shore Lane near Moscow Mills. Six others were injured, including five children under the age of twelve.
According to the report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Shaun Rivera, 30, was driving a 2000 Chrysler Sebring westbound on Highway C, when for reasons yet unknown, she crossed over the center line and struck a 2013 Ford Explorer heading eastbound and driven by Jessica Weinreis, 35, of Old Monroe, Missouri. Ms. Rivera was pronounced dead at the Lincoln County Medical Center shortly after the accident. Two children in her vehicle were listed as moderately injured and were transported to Children’s Hospital by air evacuation.
The driver of the Ford Explorer and her three children suffered what were reported as minor injuries and were transported to St. Joseph Health Center West by Lincoln County Ambulance.
In Greene County, Illinois, a husband and wife from Kane, Illinois were killed Saturday night when the motorcycle they were riding was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram while stopped at a traffic light at Kane Road on US 67 southbound. Henry and Jennifer Rethorn were stopped on their Harley Davidson, waiting to take a left turn, when the driver of the Dodge Ram, Adam Devening, 21, crashed into their motorcycle throwing them from the vehicle. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Devening was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
While it is not yet known what led to the inattention that apparently caused these accidents, our hope is that by bringing attention to these deaths in this blog, that perhaps they can at least serve as a reminder of the tragic consequences of just one moments inattention on the road. Driving is something we all do so often that we sometimes let our guard down. One moments negligence can not only destroy the life of another, but leave tragic consequences that can last a lifetime for their loved ones.
