The attorneys at Padberg, Corrigan & Appelbaum filed a lawsuit in federal district court against the owner of the truck and the truck driver.  After numerous depositions of expert witnesses, witnesses to the accident and all parties involved, a settlement for $9,800,000 was reached one week  prior to trial.  The settlement will provide the young woman with sufficient funds to pay for her medical and personal needs for the rest of her life.

In Greene County, Illinois,  a husband and wife from Kane, Illinois were killed Saturday night when the motorcycle they were riding was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram while stopped at a traffic light at Kane Road on US 67 southbound.   Henry and Jennifer Rethorn were stopped on their Harley Davidson, waiting to take a left turn, when the driver of the Dodge Ram, Adam Devening, 21, crashed into their motorcycle throwing them from the vehicle.  Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.  Mr. Devening was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

While it is not yet known what led to the inattention that apparently caused these accidents,  our hope is that by bringing attention to these deaths in this blog, that perhaps they can at least serve as a reminder of the tragic consequences of just one moments inattention on the road.  Driving is something we all do so often that we sometimes let our guard down.  One moments negligence can not only destroy the life of another,  but leave tragic consequences that can last a lifetime for their loved ones.
