Highway Fatalities in Eastern Missouri – May 17, 2011

This past couple weeks has been particularly dangerous on eastern Missouri’s roads and highways.

On May 16th, a 27-year-old Imperial man was killed when he was involved in an accident with a dump truck on Old Highway 21 near Arnold, Missouri.  Nickolas Menner was traveling northbound when the Chevrolet Impala he was driving crossed the center line and struck the dump truck, which was traveling southbound. Menner was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Two days earlier, John Casalone, a 51 year old man from St. Louis, Misouri was killed in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Union Road. Tragically, he was struck head-on by an intoxicated driver traveling the wrong way in the northbound lanes. Just prior to the accident, the drunk driver had just narrowly missed striking another vehicle. The driver has been arrested and charges are pending.

On May 13th, David Weinstein, 29 of Florissant, Missouri, was fatally injured in a two car accident.  Mr. Weinstein was traveling eastbound on Highway 370 near St. Louis Mills when, according to highway patrol reports, another vehicle traveling eastbound made a right turn into the path of his van. Both vehicles ran off the right side of the highway and overturned. Both drivers were ejected from their vehicles. Mr. Weinstein was pronounced dead at DePaul hospital.   No charges have been filed in the connection with the accident as of yet.

Jessica Troutman, a 35-year-old woman from Wentzville, Missouri was killed in a one car accident on May 7th, when she struck the curb while traveling northbound on Route Z in St. Charles County. The car became airborne, and overturned.  Unfortunately, she was not wearing a seat belt according to the highway patrol report. She tragically leaves behind a husband and two children.   Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Finally, a young boy was killed in Pike County, Missouri on May 11th, when he attempted to cross a rural highway. Samuel Borntrager, 12, of Curryville was struck by a southbound pickup on Highway M at County Road 457.    It is unclear if any charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
