Recent Car and Truck Deaths Remind Us of the Importance of Seat Belts. - March 08, 2010

A twenty one year old man from Rosebud, Missouri was killed in an automobile accident Saturday March 6, 2010 at 2:20 in the morning in Franklin County, Missouri. The accident occurred on Route AC about 4 miles west of Highway 185. Craig Stack of Bourbon, Missouri was traveling eastbound on Route AC in a 2002 Dodge Dakota Truck when Nicholas Helton, 21, of Rosebud, also traveling eastbound in a 1995 Ford Escort, skidded into the rear of Mr. Stack's truck. The Missouri Highway Patrol crash report described Mr. Helton's vehicle as moving too fast for conditions when the accident occurred. The impact caused Mr. Stack's truck to overturn, finally coming to rest on the north side of Route AC. Mr. Helton's car slid off the south side of Route AC after the impact. Mr. Helton was not wearing a safety device and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was wearing a seat belt and was apparently uninjured.

This fatality followed the death last week of a 23 year old woman from Wentzville, Missouri on Highway A in St. Charles County. Corral Tighe was traveling eastbound on Route A roughly 500 feet east of Josephville Road, when her Chevy S-10 crossed over the center line. In an attempt to straighten the vehicle, she overcorrected to the right, then overcorrected to the left causing the truck to spin out of control, exit the left side of the roadway, overturn and come to rest on it's top. Ms. Tighe was not wearing a safety device and was partially ejected from the rear of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Charles Ambulance personnel at 6:30 the morning of February 28, 2010.

Our condolences go out to their family and friends.  While accidents, serious inuries and deaths occur from many different circumstances in automobile and truck accidents, please remember that it is always a good idea to wear your seat belts.
