Missouri automobile and truck accidents and disabling injuries - January 29, 2010
Two weeks ago we listed the statistics for fatalities resulting from car, auto and truck accidents on Missouri's highways and roads. Listed below are the statistics for disabling injuries resulting from crashes. Also listed are the conditions or circumstances under which the disabling inuries occurred. Data covered is from 2005-2007 and comes from the Missouri Coalition of Roadway Safety.
While the number of deaths due to auto accidents have been reduced over the past years in Missouri, similar efforts are being made to reduce the number of disabling injuries as well. Leanna Depue, chair of the Missouri Coalition of Roadway Safety's executive committee is advocating a primary sealt belt law in Missouri. "A primary seat belt law in Missouri would increase the usage rate saving 63 lives, 759 serious injuries and $179 million in costs in the first year it goes into effect. Amending the current law will also provide $16.2 million in a one-time federal incentive grant to use for safety enforcement, education and engineering, " Depue said. Other measures designed to decrease deaths and serious injuries from automobile, car and truck accidents this coming year in Missouri include a focus on topics such as run-off road crashes, distracted driving, impaired driving and new engineering solutions for the state's highways and roads.
