Recent St. Louis area car accidents result in fatalities - December 08, 2009

The following fatal car accidents in the St. Louis area remind us to be careful as we travel Missouri's roadways this December.  Our condolences go out to all the grieving family members and friends affected.

A two vehicle accident December 4, 2009, resulted in the death of a 60 year old woman from Barnhart, Missouri.  The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that the woman, Mary A. Stevens was driving her car southbound in the right lane of MO-141 at roughly 8:10 p.m., when she was struck on the driver's side by the front end of a vehicle that reportedly failed to stop for a red electric signal at the intersection of Highway 141 and Highway 21.  The driver of the other vehicle, Cory Lenz, of Imperial, was taken to St. John's Mercy Hospital by helicopter and is listed in serious condition with multiple injuries.  A passenger in Mr. Lenz's car, Amber Curtis, of House Springs, was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony's Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

On Monday, December 7th, Albert Zykan, of Warrenton, was fatally injured in a head-on collision with another automobile. Mr. Zykan was driving northbound on Highway 47 at about 4:15 p.m. when he apparently crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by Joan Lansford, 72, of Warrenton. Lansford was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis for treatment of moderate injuries.  Neither driver was wearing a seat belt according to the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report.

A 49 year old woman, Cynthia Duspiwa of Valle Mines was killed the morning of December 3rd when her Kia Spectra ran off the left side of the road as she was traveling westbound on Route O.  The vehicle struck a tree stump and came to rest in a ravine.
