FDA Releases Fraudulent H1N1 Medical Products List - November 30, 2009

As a protection measure for consumers, the FDA released a list of websites that illegally are, or were, marketing unapproved, uncleared or unauthorized products relating to the 2009 H1N1 Flu Virus, often referred to as the "swine flu." The list does not include every website that is marketing medical products relating to the virus, only those that have received a warning letter. The FDA warns that even if a website is not included in the list, the consumer should exercise caution before purchasing any product purporting to diagnose, mitigate, prevent, treat, or cure the 2009 H1N1 Flu Virus over the web. While some of these products may be approved for other medical uses, they are not approved by the FDA for the diagnosis, mitigation, prevention, treatment, or cure of the 2009 H1N1 flu virus. The types of products listed by the FDA include antiseptics, body washes, gels, devices, gloves, hand sanitizers, herbal extracts, inhalers, masks, sprays and teas among others.
